10 Tarot and Oracle Decks for Halloween

In case you are in the market for a new deck to entertain your friends at this year’s Halloween Party, or if the kind of reader who celebrates Halloween in their heart all year round, here are my top 10 decks to get you in the Samhain spirit.

1. The Halloween Tarot

If you are looking for something fun, whimsical and full of Halloween icons, The Halloween Tarot is for you. The suits of this deck are ghosts (cups), imps (wands), bats (swords) and pumpkins (pentacles). Consistent with the Rider-Waite-Smith system, this deck is easy to read. This deck was created by Kipling West, who included the deck’s mascot, a black cat that appears in all 78 cards. Can you spot it?

2. The Halloween Oracle

This stunning oracle deck is a must have for Halloween. The Halloween Oracle is composed of 36 cards each with an iconic Halloween archetype or symbol to remind us why we celebrate Halloween and how we should incorporate the lessons it teaches us throughout the remaining 364 days of the year.

3. Zombie Tarot

Even though I am not personally a big fan of zombies, I am still tempted to purchase this deck. Made by the creator of the Housewives Tarot, Paul Kepple illustrated his Zombie Tarot with the same vintage humour.  The ammo storage box is a really nice touch also.

4. Tarot of Vampyres

Vampires, anyone? If you prefer your undead sexy and macabre, put Tarot of Vampyres at the top of your list. Ian Daniels artwork is remarkable and captures the essence of vampire mythos. This Rider-Waite system set in a Gothic landscape divides its suits into Scepters, Grails, Knives, and Skulls. Although I haven’t had the pleasure of reading it first hand, the companion book, Phantasmagoria gets outstanding reviews from everyone who mentions it, even from those who don’t necessarily connect with the deck itself.

5. Necronomicon Tarot

If Lovecraftian horror is your bag, this deck is a must have. Necromancers, gruesome gods, terrible monsters and the malevolent Old Ones fill the cards of this deck with nightmarish imagery. There is no getting around the darkness that encompasses Necronomicon Tarot, therefore readers will have to challenge themselves to find any hidden optimistic or positive interpretations.

6. Everyday Witch Tarot

Much like the Halloween Tarot, this deck is very light-hearted, fun and whimsical. The Everyday Witch Tarot doesn’t take itself too seriously, yet doesn’t go so far as to make a mockery of serious situations either, which is a big part of its charm. This deck celebrates everyday witches doing everyday things, making it as wonderful a Halloween deck as it is for everyday use.

7. Oracle of Shadow and Light

Not all the cards in the Oracle of Shadows and Light are as Halloweeny as the two shown above, but it sure does lean heavily Halloweenish. If you are looking for an oracle to illuminate the shadows, this is your deck. Ghosts, pumpkins, witches, skeletons and more in Jasmine Becket-Griffith’s iconic creepy cute art style make this a wonderful deck for Halloween.

8. Ghost Tarot

Looking at the images in Ghost Tarot feels like a deck of Tarot cards died and came back as spirits to bring us messages from beyond. Each image is as haunting and ethereal as the next, as if the spirit in the cards cannot rest in peace until it delivers a message to complete it’s journey or unfinished business. If you are fascinated by paranormal experiences and encounters, this could be the deck for you.

9. Ghosts & Spirits Tarot

Fantasy lovers might enjoy Ghosts & Spirits Tarot by Lisa Hunt, the creator of Shapeshifter Tarot, Celtic Dragon Tarot and Animals Divine Tarot. Inspired by legends of spirits, gods, and fae folk from around the world, Lisa reinterprets dryads, banshees, grindelows, undines and more as ghostly spirits that haunt/protect forests, rivers, hills and more.

10. Les Vampires Oracle

Les Vampires is another big-eyed Cavondish/Becket-Griffith oracle, this time with a Vampire theme. More creepy-cute characters with subtle fangs amidst a nighttime ambiance, surrounded by Gothic architecture and dressed in sumptuous attire to capture the classic vampire style.
